A Calmer Week

On Tuesday we went to the wolds location.  Although 2 cameras were present, no photographs were taken because it was so overcast.  We did have some wonderful views of many Red Kites and the Grey Wagtail was present, but we didn't see last year's Kingfisher or Tawny Owl.

Wednesday am and Thursday were spent with the waders on the Humber Estuary.  A big surprise was the Brent Goose spotted in a field by Nigel before it flew off East.

On Monday I checked out the Castle Howard Hawfinches, but was disappointed with the whole experience.  The only individual present was in very poor light.  The whole landscape was waterlogged, and was not a comfortable walk for people without wellies.  Finally, the price was far too expensive for what is available.  Undoubtedly, the woodland will improve when the trees mature.

Some Wednesday students went on to Spurn and saw the recently-ringed Bluethroat.  The Goldfinch and Siskin were also there.

The Friday group went to Potteric Carr, which was the quietest I've ever known it.  No Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Teal or Pochard - what's going on?
